An independent survey by leading research firm CACI has shown Glasgow has moved up the retail rankings to be crowned the second best shopping destination in the UK.
The Retail Footprint 2010 analysed current and future shopping patterns to confirm Glasgow had beaten Birmingham, last year’s number two, and Manchester and Liverpool with around £2,550m expected to be spent in the city this year.
The result from the CACI study echoes Experian’s Retail Centre Rankings 2009 that also showed Glasgow as number two in the UK.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Stuart Patrick said: “It’s important that we build on this welcome success as a foundation for securing tourism expenditure, conference business and inward investment. There is no doubt that maintaining investment in the city centre such as at St Enoch’s and at Buchanan Galleries has been and will continue to be important in securing the number one retail ranking outside London with both CACI and Experian.”
