The pedestrian stretch of Argyle Street is next in line to get the Style Mile treatment with a £500,000 plan to revamp the shopping area.
The aim is to create greater synergy between Argyle Street and Buchanan Street’s busy shopping areas including through the use of lighting, replacing street furniture and establishing an outdoor cafe and market area.
Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “The performance of the city centre is an absolutely essential part of Glasgow’s economic recovery which is why I fully support this funding announcement. Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is a longstanding supporter of the Style Mile project and we will continue to be fully involved as phase two progresses.”
The announcement was made at the same time as the city centre’s St Enoch Centre celebrated its 21st birthday.
Stuart Patrick added: “The St Enoch Centre is a shining example of the very high standards set by Glasgow’s retail leaders, with the recent and significant investment made at the centre a clear indication of its future ambitions. We congratulate everyone involved at the St Enoch Centre on reaching this milestone and look forward to celebrating many more.”
