A recent Glasgow Chamber of Commerce survey on the revaluation of business rates has revealed the impact it is having on businesses - with increases of as much as 60% cited.
Other issues highlighted by the survey include the lengthy appeals process; revaluation fails to account for downturn in rental market; and the impact of revaluation on eligibility for small business bonus scheme.
Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “This survey highlights the impact, at short notice, the withdrawal of transitional relief has had on businesses in Glasgow which has in some cases provides a real threat to their future.
“The rise in business rates bills has affected all parts of Scotland, and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce will continue to work closely with Scottish Chambers of Commerce in developing an evidence base for the impact of revaluation and campaigning for a re-think.”
